Testimonials
Dear Alan, from our first phone call, you were so kind and reassuring, asking the right questions, accepting my request to mend my wardrobe door. I felt that I am in good hands, not only professionally speaking, but also in a humanly way. Your assistant, the one with the complicated name, came on time, explained to me what is the problem in such good spirit and warmth, and the movers were also so nice and came on time.
Although I still didn’t see the door, as the tenants didn’t send me a photo yet, I felt that you have done your best, out of integrity and good aspiration. We spoke as if we had known each other for many years.
I will recommend you to the Belsize community and I wish you all the happiness in the world.
I just wanted to say what a wonderful job you have done restoring the chairs and the stool for us-they look absolutely stunning now! I can’t believe it’s the same set. Thank you so much for doing such a wonderful job for us with such short lead time, I am really looking forward to working again soon.
Thank you so much for the fine work on our table and chairs. We are so pleased with the way they look – and feel.
The quality of the work from the employees at AJ Brett is of the highest quality and they are true masters of their crafts .We thank Alan Nugent, the managing director, for guiding us on making quality decisions for our recent restorations and upholstery. Brendan Coolican, their master upholsters, recovered and redesigned a beautiful, fully buttoned Chesterfield in supple dark green hides advised by Alan, from Muir head of Scotland, the quality is perfection. Brendan also reupholstered four Victorian mahogany chairs in an intricate pattern of an eclectic deco torches fabric “Alexandra”, from Steve, the fabric advisor at Peter Jones. A huge thank you also to Rutherford Latty and George Sainsbury who re-glued and re-polished the chair frames to last another 50 years, repaired a walnut trumpet sewing table with hinges, re-made a working lock and fashioned a stunning wood turned spinal that had been missing. The last item, a Victorian desk top in dark brown tooled leather, had several, severe large water stains that was completely removed, restoring it to its former glory. I was fortunate to visit the workshops again see again see the work in progress on various jobs. I have been a client from the early 2000s when they re-polished and remade the lock keys for an 1860s burr walnut and oak shelved, Louis Philippe armoire, also to perfection. The service and advice are beyond reproach in making decisions that a right for the client and they take so much care with restorations and even pickup and deliver to your home, thanks also to Adam’s Carriage, which is a great courtesy in the 2020s. Long may this business and its crafts people survive and thank you to everyone who worked on all our restorations as your work is immaculate.
I am delighted with the excellent quality of work and attention to detail of AJ Brett in restoring a very special Biedermeier dining table. The team expertly restored each table leaf, with new table forks installed so they connect seamlessly, and restored and varnished the central pedestal and surface to a perfect finish. They are passionate about their work and professional and easy to communicate with. I would not hesitate in calling on them again for future restoration work of even the most valuable or delicate item, or recommending them to others. LC, Chelsea, London
